I might run the SM Updater and select stock 2.01 when I hear that 2.1 has been released. Then do the OTA update. I'm not holding my breathe though. Either that or wait to see if the Sholes guys put out a custom ROM that is built from the 2.1 update.

It wont make a difference, once you're using an alternate recovery, OTA updates are disabled. Going back to stock with Sholes is definitely an option, but if I were you, I'd just wait until they root and release a custom 2.1 ROM -- I bet it wont take more than a week or two.

Do not go back to stock, I'm sure SholesMod will release a 2.1-based version soon after it's pushed OTA.

    Why?
We already have more than is going to be on the official 2.1, plus a bunch of extra stuff.

I'm certainly not going to flash my Droid with a slower rom with less features.

Yea, just flashed 2.0.5. I am very pleased with it. If you want to go back to stock though, and receive the 2.1 OTA when it hits, feel free. Just know, you will loose the ability to root until 2.1 is rooted...
If you see the ninja you are rooted.
