Droid - Remove camera click/shutter sound

Hey Gang,

Long time lurker, first time poster.

I did a search on the forum but could not find any reference to removing the camera click/shutter sound. I know there is a work-around you can use by using the volume rocker. Some custom ROM's (Pete's for sure) have already removed the click sound.

If you are not using Pete's ROM and want to remove the camera click you can do so by renaming (or removing) the camera_click.ogg file.

You must be rooted and have SU access (not getting into that process here, plenty of info on that in this forum).

You can do this via an ADB shell or Terminal Emulator. Also remember to change /system to RW so you can write to it.
ADB shell
SU
mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system
mv /system/media/audio/ui/camer_click.ogg /system/media/audio/ui/camera_click.ogg.old

There is also a file in the same directory for the camcorder sound. Rename VideoRecord.ogg to VideoRecord.ogg.old to remove that too.

Too bad this does not eliminate the 'focus found' beep.

Has anyone found a solution to this yet?

you cant get rid of a sound the actual camera makes...no ones gonna find a fix for the focus sound because its not a software sound.

Hey Ned,

I have a very easy solution for you, download the app cvolume from the market place the free version will do. Once you have it lower the system volume down to zero before taking a picture and that will eliminate the shutter sound.

Why would I download an app when I just gave instructions on how to do it without an app?

I thought having multiple ways to solve a problem was always good. If you want to do it another way its cool but don't make it seem like a problem because someone suggested an alternative way.

you cant get rid of a sound the actual camera makes...no ones gonna find a fix for the focus sound because its not a software sound.

he means the double beep when the camera finishes focusing (which i agree is quite annoying)

With the app I suggested you don't hear that beep either it just takes the pic.

In the end it doesn't matter whats used to solve the problem so long as it gets rid of the annoying camera noise.
