Heat's not an issue- I use my Droid to heat up Hot Pockets for lunch.
Actually, I've seen an increase of about 5% on average. Basically going from 87 degrees to 91 on idle, 105 to 111 when online. Not a big deal, nothing to worry about.

Overclocking may shorten the processor's life.
Really. So, underclocking would improve processor life if I follow your logic.
Not sure you really understand processors. Given they run within the same temp range, they typically have the same life span. Granted, extreme overclocking could cause problems but typical applications don't approach the capabilities.
Also, we are talking about a phone here. The processor is running at a fraction of it's capabilities most of the time. When it is in my pocket, it runs at 250MHz. When it is in my hand, it runs at 1000MHz. It spends very little time in my hand. The processor on your computer is typically overclocked constantly. (Based on your BIOS settings) Generating a great deal of heat. Your phone is a different animal.
Don't believe me, just look at the new Intel (core 7) Nehalem spec's compared to the new IBM Power 7 spec's. Night and day.
Yeah I gotta agree with SANhacker.....it's a little different with a phone...
I actually get better battery life with it overclocked and underclocked in SetCPU...if that has anything to do with the life of the processor I don't know...
But I really don't think it does
Just show me the way to a new "whiskey bar"
