No, you have to have a kernel that supports overclocking. It says that right in one of the first paragraphs of the thread.

No, never heard of that happening.
I would do a battery pull and see if that like resets the battery sensor or something maybe
Hate to say it, but I followed your directions (including rooting and installing BB rom) and am still stuck at max 550.
<<edit>>
Learning curve, my apologies.
I had trouble downloading the BB from the link provided (would only get 1/4 of the rom). So I quickly downloaded a different version here:
Best Custom ROM that doesn't overclock by default
without thinking twice about it.
Bottom line, make sure you have a kernal in your rrom that can be overclocked!
Doah!!!! I can't say it loud enough.

for matth3w,
first of all, thank you for all the fantastic guides! i had never even heard of rooting before this morning, and i got bb installed during work today, it was a cinch!
i have 2 questions: what overclocking kernal are you using? initially, i downloaded and installed 't3hSteve 600 MHz' because i didn't really care too much about overclocking, but i wanted wifi tethering. after reading this thread, i really like your profile setups, and i DEFINITELY care about increase app open speed... that's the one thing that gets on my nerves on this phone, it's just too slow for my taste. i tried to download 'AdamZ 1 GHz' from your bb thread, but the link is broken, i'm assuming this is what you're using?
second question: i've already installed 't3hSteve 600 MHz' ... from this point, when i go to install a new kernel, do i need to uninstall this somehow, or just follow the same steps to install the update.zip over-top of this one?

I have my profiles setup similiar to the OP. Why is it that i can have my Max to 900 and my Min to 500 (regular settings) and it changes after a while on the setcpu wigit on my home screen? It takes a min or two but it changes to 500 max 250 min. Should it be doing this?
