Wifi Tether not working..

Im rooted, and i got the wifi tether app. It looks like it was working.. but for some reason, it doesn't pop up on any device.. i tried 2, 3 laptops... no networks pop up

What ROM are you using??

I just tried mine and it's working perfectly. It should show up as "AndroidTether" network. Try rebooting the Droid and see if it happens again.

rebooting doesn't help.. im using the one featured in this thread:

I'm having the same issue. Rooted and running smoked glass v4 plus. Says all is working but doesn't show up on any devices capable of connecting to wifi.

after much tinkering i finally got my pc to see it as a wireless access point after changing the name of SSID

I'm running sholes 2.0.5 and I can't get any other device to see my droid either. Ill try renaming the ssid. If not ill just wait till I install the next update and give it another go. Luckily its not a feature I use or would use very often.

I am running 2.0.5 and I am not having any issues with the WiFi Tethering ... in fact, I am posting this post via WiFi Tethering on my laptop.

I did notice that every time you reflash the ROM, you need to set up your network again. (Don't leave it at the defaults ... at least I would not do that as it would mean anyone could connect to your network and know what the SSID and paraphrase key.)

What should the lan setting be? I noticed that none of the options are chozen. I'm pretty much an idiot so could this potentially be my issue?

I was in the same situation as you guys and the only thing that worked for me was to go to this website Downloads - android-wifi-tether - Project Hosting on Google Code and download the latest version. I know it's listed as experimental, but totally solved the problem for me. I installed it and was immediately able to make the connection. I did not have to change any settings. It worked right out of the box.

BTW, I was running Bugless Beast 7.5 at the time and am now on 7.6.
