Quick Question In My Attempt to Root
Ok quick question
- I downloaded the file: droid-super-user.zip
-I put it on the root of the SD card not in a folder
- restarted into recovery mode
-I selected update.zip from the sd
-It installed and said phone is rooted
-I rebooted my phone and opened terminal
-type in su then enter
-got the message "su: uid 10109 not allowed to su"
What'd I do wrong?
Thanks

Personally I don't like that method. Try this one, have yet to find anyone that had problems with this:
http://rootyourdroid.info/guides/obtaining-root/
It will also walk you through all the other important stuff (backups, busybox, OCing ect.).
You are right to be wary. There is much bullcrap. Be wary of me too, because I may be wrong. Make up your own mind after you evaluate all the evidence and the logic. - Mark Rippetoe

I don't use terminal, however what you can do is try to access root via adb. If you have that installed, simply run the adb shell and type in "su". Then look at the screen on your phone, you should be prompted with a permissions prompt.

or you can use the sholemod update and it will root the phone for you with a few simple steps
