Are you sure the zip file was renamed correctly? I know my computer with Vista I just have to name the file update without the .zip on the end since it automatically adds it. You might be trying to run update.zip.zip and that won't work. Double check in properties to make sure the file is named correctly
Stop giving advice on this post, everyone! It's WAY out of date, and the instructions in it won't even work anymore. Start a new post and stop dredging up old and now-incorrect information.
Cool CM Tricks
custom_backup_list.txt - make a list of files in /system that will survive a nightly install (ringtones, notifications, system apps, wallpapers, whatever)
in Terminal Emulator, set this as your shell command: "/system/xbin/su -c /system/xbin/bash". You get all the features of bash, root access, and you can still use the initial command field for whatever you want (default is adding /data/local/bin to your path)

I don't think SPRecovery is working right. I flashed it over there and did finally get it to allow the update.zip. So I am rooted finally....Halleluya, praise the Droid! My problem now is with backup/restore. Whether I try to create a simple or advanced nandroid backup, it either says Attempting and does nothing forever or it says exited with 32. I have searched and cannot find the meaning for 32. Should I flash it over again? I cannot create a backup at all and need to do this before I experiment with roms. Thanks in advance for your help!!!

Matt...Hi....(et al)
I'm on a Mac, and when I mount the sd card, nowhere does it show me a way to drag/drop to a location called sdcard/
I get a list of files, such as:
agilefusion->
android->
barracuda.jpg
Blackberry->
celebrite.vcf
data->
dcim->
Is it me? is it the mac? is this the spot, just drag it onto that screen, without placing it into any of those folders?
I was 'puckered, and ready to start, but got jammed up right at the gate.
suggestions?
thx,
fish

sdcard/ is meaning the root of the sdcard. When your sdcard mounts you place the file directly there, and not in any folders.

I use a Mac. When you mount your Droid a "unknown" disk icon should appear which represents your Droid. If your unsure where to place the file simply drag the file to the unknown icon an the system is smart enough to add the file in the correct location.

Thanks, for yours, Mike, and Travis also.
Indeed, an icon that looks like a HardDrive is what shows up when I mount the sd. On my computer, its entitled "No Name". So, just to be sure, simply drag the upload.zip file into the HD icon, and the file will find its way to the right location? Cool! I'm a bit tired, so I'm leaving my phone plugged in and getting a big load of fuel, gettin some rest, and tomorrow, at early light, I'm on the Root Trail!
Thx

You got it! It's been a while since I've used a Mac, but if memory serves me correctly if the sd card is "no name" then the file would actually end up as volumes/no name/update.zip

Yes, that is correct. And, "no name" is correct not unknown as I had originally responded. Sorry for the confusion.
Mike
