So how long before we see a rooted DROID?

i guess my question is this.. i understand that it gives you COMPLETE access to the machine and software, but what is the benefit of doing that? like what can you do with the phone after that you couldn't do before?

Install apps like apps2sd for one along with being able to load custom cooked roms to totally change the looks of the device. For example they may come out with a rom that looks like moto blur or sense ui from htc.

and what's this i see on youtube about using your G1 as a modem? does this enable you to do that with the droid?

One other term to be aware of "bricked" as in the disclaimer the videos post of "I take no responsibility if you brick your phone" Meaning just that your phone is a brick, doesnt work at all.

Never has happened to me and I do like to run alot of "hacked" hardware/firmware on routers, phones etc, but it is something that can happen and should be thought about.

most definatly this is why i wouldnt use a custom rom till its been out for a little bit so i can get a general consensus on how well it works or doesn't work. I also will not root my device till there is a trustworthy SDK restoration pack for this phone.
