Wireless Tether for Root Users

I was under the impression that rooting the stock ROM and downloading this app would allow me to tether via wifi. I tried with 3 different devices and after connecting, none of them will open any websites. I do have SU, so I know it is rooted. Am I forced to use a different ROM to get this app working or could something else be wrong?

Any help appreciated.

im pretty sure you need a custom kernel

No, I didn't want to get into all that work. I thought that all I needed was root access.

The devices will connect, and there is some small amount of data being transferred (few kb when connected), but no websites will load.

You need a specific kernel and the kernel module to make it work ... see the post I started about wifi-tether and the app to make it happen ... app is also in my sig ... nandroid backups should always be taken before changing anything
