Need help disabling activation screen on OG Droid

So I have recently upgraded to a Galaxy Nexus and I would like to give my old Droid to my kids to play games and what not. All is well except it keeps popping up the activation screen now and then (every time it reboots). I would like to make this go away. Is there any way to get around this permanently? Can I remove any of the system apk files to get rid of this annoyance?

You mean the "Welcome to Android" screen keeps coming up?

If that's the case, just bypass it (permanently), by touching the 4 corners of the black area of the screen, in a clockwise direction (top right, bottom right, bottom left, top left)

Nope, that only gets you past it once, it still comes up after that if you reboot.

Not that screen, the one I mean has a button at the bottom of the screen that says "Activate."

I too am now on a nexus, and sbf'd my little buddy back to stock, I want to get rid of activation as well, since it can't happen, the number has been ported to my new phone.

I may have come across the answer. I have removed Phone.apk from /system/app and rebooted and that seems to have solved the problem. I used adb to delete the file but you could probably use Root Explorer or something else that gives you root access to your /system/app folder. If you want to test you could rename Phone.apk to something else like Phone.old and then reboot. If you don't like it rename it back.

I am happy to report that after restoring to stock Cyanogenmod 7.1, then removing the Phone.apk, then resetting the battery stats, I have gone through three charge/discharge cycles and I am happy to report that the only things listed in my battery stats are:

Android OS: 30%
Wi-Fi: 30%
Phone idle: 29%
Display: 12%

The cellular radio is not listed anymore so it would seem as though I have successfully disabled it AND the activation screen seems to also be disabled!
