Ok I've got two problems that might be related. I'm already rooted with 2.01 but when it boots up it says

But it said that before I rooted as well.
Then I choose apply sdcard:update.zip and it says
-- Install from sdcard
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...

Installation aborted

I'd rather have other things worked on instead. A great example is the recent work on getting just in time compiler for dalvikvm working on droid. it's not 100% complete and for most it's not stable, but it can offer substantial speed increases. Take a look at what cyanogen or whatever his name is managed to do by adding JIT to his kernel on the nexus! he got like a 240% increase or some ridiculous amount on cpu speed tests. That is something I see as being useful for basically everyone once it's stabilized and a little more feature complete.
there is no "emphasis" any longer, since google released a fully working wifi tether app for 2.0x with no modifications needed (except root). it's just a nice feature to have

You may have Download a bad file. I also update via Nandroid backup. You should look into it. You can back up and swap ROM in minutes...

I may have misread your post ... but if there is no cap, why would Verizon ever try to overcharge, ie. $20,000? I do agree however that if a person got crazy (ie torrents), it would raise some eyebrows. But if 20 people connect to your Droid for access and you hit say 7GB, I highly doubt anyone would care.
I am reading up on the JIT stuff now however ... if I get time tonite I just may try it out!
I don't know perhaps it's all just horror stories, but the contract tos for unlimited plans are for phone only. using the computer through the phone as a modem is considered abuse of service unless you pay the monthly tether fee. IF they catch you and actually decide to go after you I think you get charged per mb that you used maybe $0.10 - 1.50 per mb not sure what the rate is. At the very least I have heard they will disconnect your service.
I used th3steve I think his name is on alldroids zip with his compiled files for droid 2.0(1). cyanogens files are for 2.1 only I think and seem to cause majore FC issues with 2.0.1 roms. especially with the voice keyboard. If you don't use his file or whichever is floating around you'll have to compile it against your source tree yourself.... not quite as big of an increase on the droid however, but it's still an increase.
I'm only running 125 to 600 mhz max (on demand) and with jit installed I'm hitting just about 6 Mflops on linpack for android and I'm really not overclocked really considering the chip is a 600 mhz chip.
I think if you are 800+ OC you'll notice a much larger difference with JIT. 25-35% most cases I believe. Cool stuff.

I downloaded the one from:
AllDroid - View topic - [ROM] Bugless Beast [800MHz & Wifi] V0.7.1 (1/26/10)

Is it because I am only rooted without a ROM on 2.01? Do I have to have another one of their ROMs installed first?

might sound dumb but perhaps when you downloaded it your browser might have messed up the file extension. I know chrome does that.
Like your file might actually be named update.zip.zip you won't see that if you have don't show file extentions turned on windows. try rename and delete .zip and see if that works?
wait rooted without a rom? what do you mean? do you mean you're stock 2.0.1 with just root? yeah it should work fine I think. it's prob bad file extension or corrupted download. Also I know most of the new rom stuff won't install unless you have sprecovery .99.2b installed

You should be able to use one of the kernels for overclocking on plain ol' 2.0.1. I was able to with the 600 mhz kernel and don't think it's any different for the new speeds (I use a Sholes ROM now). Are you using the most recent version of SPRecovery?

I don't have that sprecovery installed, I'm following all the steps from http://www.droidforums.net/forum/dro...challenge.html right now.
Does this mean when I do the OEM backup, I don't need the Backup App I downloaded from the market? Or should I keep it in case I just want to recover apps and not go back to the ROM?

1. Do you have a folder called "Nandriod" on your SD card?
2. If you have Astro file manager you can back up are your app to you SD and Restore them after you install a new ROM
