Disabling white LED next to the charging port, to make the phone dark while charging

There is a white LED right next to the charging port that is pretty bright and indicates that the phone is charging. That LED is bright enough to be a disturbance when I am trying to sleep. I don't want to put a shirt over my Droid at night because it tends to result in the phone getting snagged on the shirt when I pull it off, yanking on the cord. Instead I don't charge the phone at night whatsoever. This is bad because I cannot be certain that I will have enough time during every day to charge the phone sufficiently. I really want to disable that white LED. My Droid is rooted and has firmware 2.01.

This is my first post on a Droid forum, btw. Nice to join you. I upgraded from a Blackberry Storm and the Droid is definitely the most spectacular device around at the moment in the USA.

the dock does do a good job of hiding the light. plus it keeps it off of the table in case of spills, etc.

I read that the four soft buttons light up while the phone is docked. That is even worse!


I cannot find the dock on the Verizon store website. Where were you suggesting I use this coupon code?

if you turn the display off, there's no light. you want your room to be completely dark, you'll want to turn the display off. if you need it for an alarm clock, it'll still work while off.

Thank you 640k. It sounds like you are referring to locking the phone to turn off the screen. With the phone locked or unlocked, the white LED is lit regardless as long as the phone is charging and not yet fully charged.

Right now my options, from easiest to most difficult/impossible are:

1: Color the side LED with opaque black ink.

2: Come up with a more convenient object to cover the device and extinguish the light than a shirt.

3: Find a command to disable the LED.

4: Open the device and disconnect the LED.

Option number 5. BUY THE DOCK.

when the phone is IN the dock you can not see the WHITE LED. just press ther power button once and the screen and soft buttons will turn off.

YOUR PROBLEMS are solved.
