Lost root after update yesterday :-(
Ok, first off, some of the lingo and such is greek to me so be gentle. With that said let me get you up to speed with as much useful info as I can as fast as I can.
1-bought phone new last fall and rooted it with z4root. Installed wifi tether and both worked great till yesterday.
2-had update box pop up on my screen yesterday and I clicked to ok the update and once it was finished and rebooted, the root was no longer working.
3-In case this is important info, after the update I have Android version – 2.3.3 and system version 4.5.605.MB810.verizon.en.US
4-I tried to re-install the z4root but it would not work
5-I uninstalled z4root and tried a couple other one click roots and although they say the root was successful, they are not.
6-The last root I tried was D3 easy root and after it was unsuccessful, I found the instructions below but I kept getting a "not found" message after hitting enter after the first line.
Run a command prompt as Administrator
Change to the directory where you extracted the one click method zip file.
type: adb shell
when you hit enter, the next line should end with a #
if it's $, make sure you are running the command prompt as admin, if you are then run the oneclick again and then start this over.
once you have the # prompt, enter the following commands pressing enter after each one:
mount -oremount,rw /dev/block/system /system
rm /system/bin/su
rm /system/xbin/su
then run the oneclick again.
7-after doing a root check I get "su binary not found or not operating correctly"
8-what are my options now to get the root working?

Did you install adb on your PC?
-
I dont remember doing so. Can you provide a link to download and/or info so I can give it a try?

Which easy root did you try? I used Pete's Motorola Root Tool and it worked like a charm. I was in the same situation you were where I was rooted, accepted the OTA and then re-rooted using it. I did not even have to do the extra little trouble shoot you posted which is for the DX in that situation.

Awesome, glad it worked!! Like I said it had been a great tool for me and I have used it on both .602 and .605.

I do have one other question now that I have downloaded and installed a tether. Before my update and with the original root, the only icon that showed up was the tether icon. With the update and the new root I now have the tether icon and a hotspot icon. Is that normal with the new update and root or do you think I am being charged for the usage? Almost forgot, I have the verizon 3g hotspot stuff turned off while this is happening.
