Rooting / Unrooting problems

I had my phone rooted using Pete's 1 click root (Version 1.06). I was using a wireless tether program that worked fine for about a week, then all of a sudden wouldn't work. I used Pete's 1 click to unroot my phone. I then ran the temporary root using the program to try to be able to use the wireless tether again. It did not add the superuser program, so again I unrooted. I then did the permanent root again, which gave me errors when attempting to install the superuser and busybox apps. It tells me I must unroot my phone first, which I had already done. Anybody have any suggestions? I'm new to rooting as it is, I'm not looking to add ROMs, just wireless tether. Thanks guys.

PS - I'm running Gingerbread 2.3.4
