Root time

I went to 4shared and downloaded and installed Z4root on my phone. When I tried to root it, it stays on the first screen forever. How longshould it take for the whole process to get the phone to be rooted?

A few seconds. If it hangs there reboot try again. If it still hangs there close the program and keep trying it.

Z4 root is a funny app. I have used it 3 times on my droid x. The first time I used it I ran it multiple times for a total of about 45 mins before it worked, the 2nd time it worked on the first run and in less then 1 min, and the last just took one restart of the app.

What I normally do is let it run, once it gets to the 10 min mark then just shut off the phone or you could pull the battery. Boot back up and then run Z4 again. Repeat this until it works. When it is successful it will automatically reboot the phone for you and when it powers back on you will be rooted if it worked properly.

Gerald's phone info says that it is a droid x.

However, you asking this made me think of a basic question I should have asked.

Gerald, what OS are you running? If it the latest OTA from VZW then z4 will not work on it. You would need to follow other steps to obtain root if that is the case.

Well now I see from your tapatalk signature that you have a milestone x. I am not at all familiar with milestones.

For the regular Droid x's latest ota which is os 2.3.3 (gb) there are 2 options. Sbf back to stock froyo or the latest is the one click method used on the d3 which also works on the dx.

But as I said I am not familiar with the milestone at all. So I am not sure whether you can employ the same methods.

I have the Droid X. The company im wit calls it the milestone. Ive tried to root it a few times. It always gets to "aquiring root shell", then it just closes and goes to the home screen. I have to keep uninstalling and reinstalling it.
