    Exclamation Droid X rooting questions

I’m tired, I’m frustrated, and I have work tomorrow morning. I apologize to the Mods if this thread is in the wrong place, but it’s the only place I found to put it. Please bear with me.

I’ve had the Droid X for about a year now and I’m tired of it freezing, chugging, and just generally causing strife. I’ve tried to optimize it’s performance as best as I could (deleting useless apps, keeping my media [pictures, music, video] to a minimum, as few auto-update widgits as possible, etc) but it became too much a few days ago, and I’ve decided to root it. I plan to root it and install a faster OS. Keep in mind that I don’t know how to do any of these things but I’m willing to follow directions.

I plan to root the phone using the method listed here:Motorola Droid: Full Update Guide - CyanogenMod Wiki
I plan to use the OS called: cyanogenmod
And I hope that works properly.
Now while I can replace any videos, pictures, or music that get deleted in the rooting process, an application that I got with the phone “Navigation” is one I use frequently and don’t want to lose.

How can I root the phone, install the new OS, and yet still have Navigation? Thank you all for your help as I have been everywhere searching for this information and have found nothing.
    (running Android 2.3.3)

First off, you will need to sbf. Use this guide:

Complete Droid X .sbf Flashing Guide

After sbf, use this to root Froyo:

Then use the Droid 2 bootstrap to install the CM7 files:

    http://www.mediafire.com/?36we9h8bslejtwk

Download the current Cyanogenmod 7 file here:

    http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=cdma_shadow

    Here is the camera/camcorder/torch fix:

    http://rootzwiki.com/showthread.php?...-Zip-for-CM4DX

    1. Sbf back to Froyo.
    2. Root your phone using Z4 Root.
    3. Download the latest Cyanogenmod 7 file and the all in one fix aand make sure its on your SD Card
    4. use the Droid 2 bootstrap to get into Clockwork Recovery
    5. wipe data, cache and go to advanced and wipe dalvik cache
    6. choose install from SD and install the Cyanogenmod file first, then install the all in one fix.
    7. reboot and you're done!

I have RSD Lite 5.3.1 and Motorola 5.0.0 device Drivers. They’re on the list of things to download seen here: Motorola Droid: Full Update Guide - CyanogenMod Wiki

Download the 2.3.340 sbf file, extract it using a zip extractor or WinRAR, then put your phone into bootloader by turning the phone off and holding the camera button, volume down and power buttons. Then use RSD to flash your phone.

    Its all in that guide.

So, first I need to go back to Froyo, then I can root, then I can install cyanogen? This is madness. But so long as someone wrote down the process in a coherent fashion somewhere, I’ll give it my best shot.
