Installing SDK

i have been trying to install the sdk but have had internet problems and keep getting kicked off and have to restart. bt anyway, to my real question what parts do i need to install to use adb. I really want to do the one click wireless tether patch. i like my 2.0.2 and didnt really like 2.1 so i hate to do the whole 2.1 and wifi tether rom i know i could do it with nandroid and am comfortable with it but i have never used adb and am totally lost any help is greatly appreciated. and i have searched but using search from my droif kinda doesnt work. i cant open the dsearch box. does anyone else have this problem??
