Tethering without any hacks or apps

Maybe I am missing something here... but I can tether my phone perfectly fine with my macbook pro without any special apps or hacks.

I pair the phone with the laptop and in the settings i set it up with a default Bluetooth DUN configuration with a blank telephone number. Account name of (phone number)@vzw3g.com and then set the password to "verizon". Connect and it works fine. Why is everyone using all these apps and hacks to do this when its not needed?

I used to do this with my old XV6700. Works just fine. Back then it used to be just (number)@vzw.com. Before 3G came out. Funny enough, a Verizon rep on the phone told me how to do this.

Go to any wal-mart and you can get a Bluetooth Adapter for a PC that goes into a USB slot for 20$ I'm sure there are tons of options online as well. I use mine for using a BT headset with VOIP software. works great.

Then you will need to root your Droid and flash the wifi tethering kernel.
