Rolling back to 2.0.1 from 2.1 ... No root?

I tried rolling back to 2.0.1 following the instructions here:

[How-To] Back to Stock, no su, no BusyBox, etc.

Everything seemed to work until I had to update to 2.0.1 at the end and the installation aborted. Now I am stuck on 2.1 with the SU icon but no SU permissions. I need to rollback to 2.0.1 but the recovery screen is the stock one, not nandroid so I don't know how to restore to a fresh copy of 2.0.1.

I only have a few days left on my 30 day warranty and my backlight went dead on the back and menu button and I need to return, but with a modified notification bar and 2.1 in the settings, I know they won't take it. Could someone please help me out?

But to root don't you have to be on 2.0.1? When you update to 2.1 it comes rooted, I don't think there is such thing as an unrooted 2.1 for Droid at the moment, so how would I go about rooting starting with 2.1?

so u cant get to restore menu to restore new backup right?
how did you try to get into recovery mode?
I use rootdroidhelper cuz i think its faster.
or hold x and power button till u get there.

I get the default recovery screen that comes with the phone, the options are:
    Android system recovery (2e)

    -reboot system now
-apply sdcard:update.zip (this didn't work, i get installation aborted)
    -wipe data/factory reset
    -wipe cache partition

When I was following the instructions from the thread I posted in the original post, while I was in droidroothelper, I pressed reboot recovery and nothing happened at all.

Also, for example, when I hit "Install and CHmod Busybox" The notification popup says, "Busybox installed, you may now CHmod it..." so it seems as though it can't chmod it because it's not rooted? As well as not being able to reboot because it's not rooted? I'm not sure.

well thats what chmod actually says when it works right. so that parts good.
so after seeing that from droidroothelper. sounds like its rooted fine. its just not booting into nandroid. which is gay.lol
the update.zip is actually the right update.zip correct?(im sure it is. but ive made this mistake before)
Hey have you tried droidroothelper pro from market? maybe it will change something for you. its only like a buck fifty

The update.zip is the one from the "2.1 the easy way" thread.

I just tried each step in DroidRootHelper again, and when I hit reboot recovery, I get the popup "Rebooting into recovery" but then nothing happens. So i reboot manually and I still get the default recovery screen :/

Well I really don't think it's rooted seeing as I can't SU in terminal. This is really frustrating me ><
