Glad it's working out for you all!! The 'weird exclamation point' in the windows list is meaning that it's an open/unencrypted network ... that is normal. Thankfully access control works so I'm not AS worried about not having that. At least I can still control who connects!
Also ... for those who see the SSID on their PC but it fails to connect ... it's likely that it was just dropping the SSID when you clicked to connect ... try again immediately and it should connect. You just hit those brief seconds when the SSID disappears, but before it's reset.
Everything "seemed" to work... but the WiFi app said "Unable to start tethering.", and my brightness was broken. Also, 'su' wasn't working either. Hhmmn... I did a simple nandroid recover and it's all good again. Well, no WiFi tether, but you know what I mean.
I think I'll try the manual method. Seems fairly straight forward, but does it work for 2.1?

Manual should work as well, yes ... try the exe again though before you try the manual method ... and if you go into adb shell and enter 'su' what do you get?

Uninstalled the WiFi tether app and tried it again. Same result. Attached is the last message I got. Obviously not good. :0/
Also, there is NO tether app installed. ???
And like before, 'su' is broken. When I open Term Emu in the DROID, I type su and get: sh: am: no found
su: am.. Error:No such file or directory
If your su is broken, this certainly won't work for you ... that would have to be fixed first, one way or the other. That's a weird error you're getting ...

But when I do a recover, my 'su' works just fine ... from the DROID, and/or ADB. (see attachment)
