so should i probably wait a few days, i honestly wouldnt be considering this until next week when i go back to college, we have wired internet in the dorms and this would make my life way easier, do you think that would be a long enough wait, monday the 11th would be the earliest i would consider doing this

I would atleast wait til some else other than the Dev says that this exe works.
Its unclear what version of windows it was made for too. Maybe someone will confirm it soon and dev can give more info.

Vista Ultimate 64x
wouldn't work, see details of previous post

OK, I had to go to bed so I see quite a few questions here. I will attempt to clear a few things up.
1) This exe can be run from anywhere on your computer. It installs NOTHING on your PC, it only automates the installs on your phone. Once complete, you never have to run it again unless you clear your phone. Only run the exe again if you have restored your phone.
2) This was coded up on Win7 x32. The executable literally is just a packager; the rest is just shell scripts.
ok, I'll report it's not working for me I am rooted, have sirpsycho's recovery image, everything goes fine until when it says to try logging into tethering to start it it asks for permission, I select always, but it won't start tethering, it fails. I goto the next step and I get "failed on /data/data/android.tether/bin/tether.orig - Not a Directory Unable to chmod /data/data/android.tether/bin/tether: not a directory" Then tells me I'm ready for tether, but I'm obviously not. I will say I browsed to this location /data/data/android.tether/bin is a file, not a folder, thus there is no /data/data/android.tether/bin/tether.orig
That is weird ... did you try it again? For this to happen, wifi either installed to somewhere else on your phone ( not likely ) or it failed during installation. I would try to uninstall wifi-tether again, then enter this command from a DOS prompt:
adb shell busybox rm -rf /data/data/android.tether
Then run the exe again and report back. My x64 box is down and out, so I can't test on that.

Question....If I were to get this wifi tethering working would my childrens ipod touches work with this?
Sometimes a "smartphone" is only as smart as its user.

Yes, anything that can connect to a Wireless Router can connect to this. We recently went on a cross-country road trip to Colorado with friends and some of them used their laptops to surf the web... in the car!
I have a question... I started up the EXE and the first time I "Press any key" it says my phone should be shutting down... but it doesn't. Does the SDK folder need to be in a specific location?

yes. but note that it will get extremely hot depending on your use. I played some xbox live matches and browsed net on laptop with it before my uverse got hooked up in new house and when i went to shut off wifi tether, my phone was really hot. almost gets as hot as my samsung omnia with windows mobile with wifi tether. extended use could cause hardware problems over time i would think.

Sorry for more questions but we can use some sort of security key so that tom d.ick and harry cant access it?
I know I should probably go read the other thread.
Edit: never mind, its posted in the OP of the other thread that encryption isnt working but access control is.

If it does not shut down, you likely don't have USB debugging turned on ... if you do ... then you might not be rooted ... run this from a DOS prompt and tell me what you get:
adb reboot recovery
adb must be in your PATH or this will not work ...
