    Can't access recovery screen D:

I wanted to update my phone from 2 -> 2.01 and maybe root my phone, but apparently i can't even get to that recovery screen you get from holding x; when i turn it on and hold it, all it shows is the moto icon, which fades in to black, then the light sputters a bit, then goes back to the moto icon.
it isn't too terrible a situation since my phone functions normally otherwise, but it is a bit of an annoyance; have been looking into some sort of custom recovery image, but looks like they all require root?
any help would really be appreciated x_o

If you have adb you can connect your phone and type "adb reboot recovery" and see if that works to get you into recovery.

Did u try following the how to install 2.1 the easy way? Use that to root and go to 2.0.1 by following all the directions and using a 2.0.1 rom instead of 2.1

ok, just set up all the adb stuff and rebooted it using that command, but it does the same thing as if i hold x x_o goes to moto icon, fades to black, flickers, then goes back to moto

I can't root at all since i cant get to the recovery screen. unless there's some other way to do it.

at this point, i kinda just want to reset my phone, but the option in privacy doesn't delete anything other than reset my phone so idk what's going on with that either

The factory reset should delete all data on the phone.

When you try to go to recovery by holding "X" are you holding the power button too? If you aren't you should be. Then you should get the "/!\" display, then hold vol+ and camera to get to recovery. I can't remember if the "adb reboot recovery" command is a original feature or only in SPRecovery.

I'm not sure what to say, I don't know of a way to flash the update.zip for root without going into recovery. If you can't get root I don't know how you'll flash a new recovery image. Can you get the 2.0.1 update over the air? You might want to post over on alldroid and see if they have a solution for you.

Don't know if i can get the OTA update, nothing's popped up yet, and verizon's website for it just sends me in weird redirects. I figured there was no way to flash a new recovery image without root, but it was worth a shot i guess. thanks for all the help man, really appreciate it
