Rooting on locked versus unlocked bootloaders.

So I'm supposed to be getting an upgrade on May 9th. I'm currently on a OG Droid, rooted running GPA 14 with gingerbread and loving it. With the sea of locked bootloaders out there here's my question.

What are the differenced between what you can do rooting a phone with a locked bootloader versus rooting a phone with an unlocked?

What specific restrictions are there?

The only thing I'm really concerned with is being able to remove bloatware. With the newer processors, speed shouldn't really be an issue, so not really seeing much need for overclock. I know you can't install custom ROMS like cyanogen for instance. But are there are other restrictions? If so what?

I have Droid 2 with locked bootloader. I have flashed 4 different ROM's on it and overclock. All bloatware is gone. So to answer you.....I am sure there are affects but there are none that I am noticing....but I am not a dev....just a user.

You cnt change the kernel but u can do everything else

Well if this is the case, then who really cares if bootloader is locked or unlocked? Cause like I said, especially with some of the dual core beasts coming out, I see no reason to be messing around with the kernel, much less overclocking.

As long as I don't have garbage like Verizon Visual Voicemail running nonstop in the background I'm fine. Fine....that is...as long as these fool carriers/manufacturers keep the phones OS on the latest Android OS.

I know but it REALLY bothers me having it running for no reason all the time. That and the lack of OS upgrades is the reason I rooted my phone in the first place. NO MORE CRAPWARE!

anybody else have anything to share? i'm also curious as to what can and can't be done. i've always been under the impression that the kernel had to do with overclocking but from what i've been reading, even the phones with locked bootloaders can be overclocked.
