    Droid 1 service

Im planning on picking up a droid 1 for cheap to mess around on. Plan to use it to mess with roms, and just use it as a wifi setup. This is possible correct?
After a factory reset, i just by pass the activation, and then I can add a google account, and then connect it to my wifi. Then it will work and I can go into the market and buy aps and whatnot, correct?
I will be running the phone with no service provider. Just wifi. Am I right in thinking this will work?

You guys think grabing a d1 would be worth it? I have a dx now rooted and oc'd. I just don't want to go further with my everyday phone and deal with bugs. Thought having the d1 would be fun to mess with.

OK, ya I have a Droid x, but I just don want to brick my everyday phone. Its rooted and oc'd but don't want to make it buggy, but I do Wang to mess more with an android device.

The d1 is a great device for that. Its almost impossible to do something that can't be fixed!

Is it really a slow phone? I'm use to my dx, will I not be satisfied with it modded? I just love tinkering with the phones but don't want to go further with my dx. Haha

Its not a slow phone at all. It may not be as fast as your dx, but you won't notice much difference with the right rom and kernel. I'm currently running chevys 1.2 ghz and get quadrants in the high 1400's.

Yea mines running at 1.2 ghz as well on Sourcery ROM of course and plenty of speed for me and pretty much impossible to break it software wise with the sbf's of course so still definately recommend the d1 which is still the best phone around in my opinion
