Easy kernal question

I was just wondering if the overclock kernals are rom dependent?

What I mean is this,right now I am running GPA11 with slayer 1gz overclock. The slayer is running very well and would like to keep using it, but want to try other roms.

Do some kernals work better with different roms or is it just how the kernal works with the phone.
