Is there any way to enable ICS (internet connection sharing) on a rooted droid? or any way to use USB tethering without PDAnet? I can't find any information on that at all.

I did not want to use wifi tether. I'm not comfortable with its methods.
I don't mind using a cable and something a bit more robust. Like just checking a box, and plugging in a cable.

Then I misunderstood your post, you said you wanted to enable "(internet connection sharing) on a rooted droid" I took this as you are wanting to enable sharing your internet connection from your droid... If you are just looking to tether you will have to use PDAnet, until VZW supports tethering for Android.
