    1. Gingerbread is a ui it changes the cosmetic looks of the fone ie textbar/icons/notification bar.

    2. First and foremost to install a rom you first need to get koush bootstrap from the market very crucial part before install rom is to back up your fone using that app. So if anything happens you have a backup to a restore point. Then if you want you can backup your apps using Titanium backup. So if sonething goes wrong with your apps you can restore then by using this app.

Please spend some time reading this forum (and others) and know the pros, cons and consequences of rooting, ROMing and theming They all mean a different things. You have a Droid 1 (I assume) so you don't have to use bootstrap. Not everyone here will give you the correct answers so it's up to you to figure out the truth. Look at the stickies in the related sections you are researching. Good luck.

The apps irecommened are to install a rom. After installing a rom you can put a theme on in. There are many themes and as well as roms. Check out the ApeX rom by Fabolous. After installing that rom you can then theme it. In your case you want the Gingerbread theme Fab has is on here under his rom ApeX. Its under the droid x forum under dx roms click Fabolous. If your having troubles just let me know it sounds confusing. But it fairly easy.

Like this person said. It would also be helpful for us to help you out if we know what fone you have.

BTW, Gingerbread is actually the new OS so it's a little more than just visuals, but there are themes out there that makes a non-gingerbread system (2.3) look like a real GB ui.

The ADW launcher has a Gingerbread (green and blue) icons and will not require a ROM change.
