For boot animations, my personal favorite is the one from the Nexus One.



But I think it could be a lot better if it took up the whole screen.

Does anyone know if this would be possible/easy without making it look distorted or less sharp?

The only way to make the image take up the entire screen would be to scale it up; and since the image is a raster and not a vector; yes it would distort the image. You might be able to run each individual image through some vector conversion software (vectormagic.com), however the results would probably be lack luster and the process would be tedious
