Rooting Motorola Droid with Z4root

Hello:

I am new to the rooting of phones and am not having much luck with my first attempt. I have a Motorola Droid running android version 2.2.1 and build number FRG83D. I downloaded Z4root 1.3 and after I installed it to phone and ran the permanent root it goes through the different steps but when I think it should be done and restart phone it kicks back to the app menu. Anybody experience the same and found a fix I would appreciate the help.
