Would be nice to get confirmation. Of course the BIG thing that was brought up in the originating threads was if these mods violated your EUA and could be grounds for VZW to drop your contract (not that they are likely to, but still).
haha yep if there's any mod that us rooters do that would get us dropped from VZW, i would think it would be this one...

I think the phenomenon known as "confirmation bias" is hard at work here (Google if you don't know what that means). I did several tests using the SpeedTest app and saw no change in the range of data speeds after installing the hack, and both before and after I got a very wide range of results even when performing the tests within seconds of each other. So there can be a wide fluctuation in data speeds on a constant basis, so "before and after" screen shots could be extremely misleading.

I vote placebo (in fact I'm pretty sure I was the one the OP was referring to who made the placebo claim on another thread ).

I would have to agree 100%. I think the evidence would be concrete and not with a bunch of stipulations

Here's the original thread for this hack on xda-developers:
[GUIDE] How to defeat data throttling - xda-developers

If you scroll down to the bottom of the OP, in big bold letters it reads:

SO FAR, THIS HAS ONLY BEEN KNOWN TO WORK ON T-MOBILE USA AND CANADA BELL... ALL OTHER CARRIERS SEEM TO HAVE THESE FILES JUST BECAUSE IT'S A STANDARD IN ANDROID 2.2.1 AND SEEM TO BE CONTROLLED COMPLETELY OTA UNLIKE TMOBILE AND BELL...

So I think we can pretty conclusively say that the hack won't work on Verizon because they throttle OTA, not via the handset software.

Well there you go...i wonder if people are still claiming double speeds....clear cut case of people swearing up and down because a dev told them so

Placebo or for real, having followed most of these threads the one thing not mentioned is that this hack is a little different than throwing a switch in the build.prop file. On one of the threads on XDA the op mentions (further along in the thread) that there are other calls to these services (jar file) one being in the telephone.apk. These are lines of code, in a file that is part of a larger system of files. Granted if the infornation on T-mobile and Canada is correct there may not be detrimental effects to gutting lines of code for us, I still have reservations about this brain surgery with an axe approach. The mere fact that the Mobile Network services gets borked means that at least some of my concern is warranted. Who knows what other calls from other programs could get code errors going. The mobile networks is obvious. Has anyone run all of the lines of code in main android apps to see what other underlying issues may be going on. What about market apps?

I guess what I am saying is that if you decide you want/need to run this hack, make a mental note and perhaps when you find an "irregularity" with your phones operation, consider this before declaring a bug in some rom, or running the rescue squad here in circles trying to help you troubleshoot something

It wasn't the better speed (I get max 3g. 2.5mbps ) but my connection didn't drop at all like it would if i were downloading a large file.

But after reading a thread I read that someone says it doesn't work and it is merely a "placebo" effect. What are your opinions or facts on this.
You mention an installable hack for the d1. I have seen the procedure on xda but I am a nix dummy. Can you point me to an installable hack! I would greatly appreciate it.

Well after doing some research.. I am still not clear whether Verizon actually throttles data through the coding in services.jar or OTA. Either way I do know this though.. I used to get 1-2 mbs download from my house pretty consistently. After I started using a ton a more data (like 11 gigs).. I noticed that I'm lucky to get .8mbs consistently. After applying the hack to UD 2.5 my speeds RETURNED to their original glory of AT LEAST 1mbs, topping out at 1.8 PRETTY consistently. Now before using this hack, and after using 11g's a month, I NEVER saw a 1.8.. NEVER. So my vote is in.. and I don't really care if it's "supposed" to work or not as long as it does work .
