    Question New update?

New to this site, rooted my droid not too long ago with one of the tuts. on here. I believe it was "Root any Android phone" or something like that.
My question is, Is it okay to update with your rooted device? Would I still have root after? Because I like the rooted apps that I have on my phone.

Updating with the OTA releases (Over The Air pushed by Verizon) will remove root access so you never want to do that if you have a rooted phone. Most people who root also install an alternative recovery from the stock one (SPRecovery or ClockWorkMod Recovery) and those two will prevent the OTA updates from being installed.

Look here for near stock but rooted 2.2.1 FRG83D

Tcrews is spot on. Your recovery should block the install. And the link he gave u is phenomenal. Gonna have a gingerbread theme soon.

I don't believe I ever made a back up though.. and it does prompt me. With updates comes fixes so is there another way to get the update without unrooting my device?

Use the ROM from the Link I provided.
It's the update (FRG83D, OS 2.2.1) with Root.

You really can't "disable" the update notification, you have to make the system think you are at the current/correct version.

Your contacts are sync'ed with google so should sync down. You will most likely have to reinstall your apps and reset your phone.

Technically it's an updated version of the same ROM you are running, just the newest version but it would be wise to wipe data/cache when installing to make sure it is a clean install. Will require to you sign back in to google and set your phone up again.

And will I have to reactivate with Verizon? I'm trying to get all the facts before I jump ship into something I've never done before, which is why I am asking so much. Also how do I make sure my contacts are synced up? Again really sorry for all the questions.
