Stop the SSID Broadcast

I called Verizon support and ask if there was a way to turn off the broadcast of the SSID. After fifteen minutes of trying to esplain what I wanted I gave up and came here....

Does anyone have a hack or "IS" there a way to turn off the SSID on a Droid-X when the hotspot is on? No its not a security issue, I am tired of everyone around me asking my password so they can connect when It's on.

Help will be greatly appreciated.

Change the SSID to "DONTASKFORPWD". That should steer them away, no?

I'd do this -- I'm unaware of a hack that will disable SSID broadcast. I dont think any of the 3rd party apps have this ability either -- Maybe someone can tell me I'm wrong.

Yeah, unfortuneatly I am trying to circumvent having to use work network for personal stuffs. I dont want anyone to know I have a SSID broadcast going on.

set your SSID to 'virus'

no one will try to access it.
