Tether capability with android-wifi-tether (Wireless Tether for Root Users)

One addition piece of info: not all versions of WiFi for Rooted Users as listed on the Google download page will run on every Droid. For example, a while back mine would run the older pre8 version but would not run pre6, 7, 9, or 10. So it may be worth your time to try some of the older versions.

Meaning that the application wouldn't run on your phone? Or the app would run but the connection just didn't work?

Meaning that it would not allow me to connect to the internet.

Hey, I'm running Bugless Beast FRF57 0.2.1, which I THINK has the right kernel already packaged with it (or at least the program doesn't complain) and I just downloaded Wireless Tether for Root Users from the market. Whenever I try to do it, though, I manage to connect to it fine, but for some reason my computer will be unable to load anything besides google. (and google searches will work) Anyone know why this is?

edit: I disabled Access Control and now all seems to be working fine.

I rooted my phone for the first time tonight using the video tutorial linked below and then downloaded the wireless tether apk program. I was able to run it without commands because I already had superuser privileges. This hack is for the Droid (A855), all versions as far as I know (my version is 2.2.2 with build FRG83G). It worked like a charm for me and so did the wireless tether application. I also used a program called PdaNet that allowed for a direct connection (via USB data cable) to use the phone as an internet source. This was kind of nice because it alleviated the security issues but is cumbersome when you're on the run. Such a setup would be good for situations like camping/hiking, road trips, etc. because you can charge your laptop and use it's USB power to charge your phone as well without causing you to have to use two power sources.

Just my two cents.

I'm running CM7.0.3 and i have ChevyNo1 1Ghz LV kernel installed.

When i run wifi tether my laptop sees the network and can connect to the droid but there is no internet coming through.

Ideas? from my knowledge Chevy's kernels support wifi tethering. TIA.

I had that issue when I first started tethering. And actually 2 things worked for me depending on the rom. First was to use the wep. Second set it up as a hoc on the computer. Yeah I might be missing some steps 3 hours of sleep in 72 hours. Brain just isn't functioning

Ahhhh brain fart lol u can also setup up access control in tether that also worked for me. Make sure u are dhcp on the computer not static.
