I believe it is related to "No Netfilters" fault on strtaup.
The WiFi Tether also show a failure on "NAT Rules".
Anybody else have these issues?

Install one of AdamZ's kernels.
NOTE: I know this works. Other kernels may also work, but I didn't bother to notate that.
NOTE2: Someone else may also be able to explain how to fix it to work with YOUR kernel, but you didn't mention neither your ROM nor your kernel so I find that less likely.

Ok...so...Im totally confused, i got this phone specifically for wifi thethering and have spent hours on this....I have 2.1 is there anyway to get this to work? Everytime I follow another link it says not for 2.1...any help would be appreciated so I can get wifi tethering up and running...thanks
This thread is REALLY old - most things are out of date
Summary for how to get wifi tethering:
1). Root your phone
2). Install Barnacle (from the Market)
Alternatively, you can install a custom kernel or ROM and then install google-wifi-tether instead of barnacle (but you still need to root, first)
Step 1 is the big one - rooting a phone running 2.1 is MUCH harder than rooting a phone that was running 2.0.1. You will find a lot of howtos on this one. The simple description is that you will need to run RSDLite, connect to the phone, and reflash the phones recovery with SPRecovery. This will allow you to modify files on the phone without needing the updates to be signed. Then you can install the su binary and superuser app. The walkthroughs will be far more in-depth than I was just now, this is just the short description of how to do it.
So for anyone else reading this thread - STOP reading this thread! It's old and outdated! All you need to do to wifi tether is get root access. That's all!
Cool CM Tricks
custom_backup_list.txt - make a list of files in /system that will survive a nightly install (ringtones, notifications, system apps, wallpapers, whatever)
in Terminal Emulator, set this as your shell command: "/system/xbin/su -c /system/xbin/bash". You get all the features of bash, root access, and you can still use the initial command field for whatever you want (default is adding /data/local/bin to your path)
wow...ok...thanks. seems like too much of a hassle...im just going to return the phone today as I just got it yesterday. everyone told me this would be simple...even a dude from verizon! anyway thanks for the help but I searched how to root with 2.1 and there are way too many different ways..some say the screw **** up...who knows...doesnt seem worth it though. I am regretting buying the phone..should have just stuck with the storm 2 as I just found a much easier way to wifi tether with that phone...lol back to verizon you go!
I don't know why on earth a verizon employee would even imply that you should try to use tethering on the phone - it goes against Verizon terms of service...
Really? I didn't think the Storm 2 could do wifi tethering. Bluetooth or wired, maybe, sure, but the Droid can do those, too - it's the wifi tethering that's difficult.I am regretting buying the phone..should have just stuck with the storm 2 as I just found a much easier way to wifi tether with that phone

I have had some issues with it and have been on the Google/Android forums about the issue (see issue ID 363 using below link). My main problem was with the Download and Upload meters resetting to "O" if I left the app (just using the "Home" button) for any reason.
They have responded.
The Wireless Tether for Root users has been updated...and another one is on the way.
Here is the link to the issue...

Issue 363 - android-wifi-tether - Upload/Download Meters not working - Project Hosting on Google Code
That should be fixed - see r447.
The next pre-release will include these fixes.
