Yes, easy
Yes, with some work
No, can't get it working
I got to the "Install the updated tiwlan_drv.ko file to /system" step before realizing that I need to use adb, which I am trying to learn about right now. In the mean time, I tried to turn on my wifi on the Droid and it says it is not able to. Is this because I installed the tiwlan_drv.ko file? How can I get my wifi back until I can figure out how to use adb and complete the wifi tethering process?
I think so. After I failed the first time my wifi wouldn't work either. Just restore your phone to your backup while you play with adb.
BTW.. are you using mac or windoze? I'm using mac.. adb was fairly easy to figure out. Really all it does (in this instance) is push the file to your phone.
Works great. Thanks!
YAY walk-throughs!
An excellent post has been written on how to use ADB. I recommend people follow that post before attempting my methods.

If I've previously installed busybox at /system/bin, can I skip that part of these instructions?
I can't seem to get this working. I have tried about 4 times.
I have 2.1 V3 which has correct kernal already. It also already has tiwlan_drv.ko
I have had busybox installed for over a week. I have busybox in /system/xbin
I have entered all of the scripts moving the tether files around etc. I have tried this with tether_1.txt and tether_2.txt each renamed as plain old "tether" and yet ....no joy.
Can anyone give me some pointers?
Thanks all
I have gotten to where you have as well with no luck. three things I've noticed:
1. My wireless works and connects/detects available wireless networks just fine and dandy
2. the teather application does NOT enable the Wi-Fi if it is disabled
3. IF the Wi-Fi IS ENABLED when you launch the teather, when you click to -Press to start teathering.- the application will pause for a long moment, and when it gives the error message, I find that the Droid's Wi-Fi is turned off.
Just my observations for what they are
Im running 2.1 with greek35T version 0.03 rom that has the built in tether kernel and driver.
I was successfully able to get tethering up and running after downloading the tethering apk and tether v 2 script. I had to start tether at the command line to get this to work.
Couple observations:
busybox needs to be in /system/bin rather than /system/xbin
I connected but then when I disconnected and tried to reconnect again (from 2 separate computers) I was unable to, even after stopping and starting the tether program. Does anyone have a reason for this??
Wow very frustrating since now I can not onnect even after a reboot of the phone!!
Suggestiong?
