DROID saves the day

Took the family to the Sarasota Showfolks Circus last night. We live in Ruskin about 30mi north of Sarasota. Now my dad and I have been to the Robarts Arena many times, but becasue he was driving I was playing with the DROID and did the NAVIGATE TO ROBARTS ARENA SARASOTA found the address but when I looked at the route there was yellow and red on the map near Ellenton. SO we took a alternate route US301, when we got back on I75 you could see the south bound lanes were shut down.

Found out later there was a fatal crash and two were air-lifted out.

We got to the show on time, come intermission moe people were showing up telling about the horrible delay on I-75

i guess you have a verizon (and not ex-alltel)-based phone

I would swap that Droid out ASAP and get another one. GPS has been steller all over the Tampa area. I live in Ruskin my work office is in St Pete.

not a single person who HAD ALLTEL, has working gps
that's the problem
even though verizon is my carrier...
my old phone number has a PRL that tells the phone to look for ALLTEL towers FIRST, therefore not allowing me to utilize agps data

thousands of folks are affected in the greater tampa bay area
verizon is doing nothing (ostensibly) to fix it
very sad, indeed

As a Ex Altell customer, all we did was get new phones, make sure that Verizon changed us over to their plan, we all kept the numbers we had before. My GPS works fine, got the Blackberry Storm after the change over. Better after everyone changed phones and the account was setup as a Verizon account.

I'll ask the wife about that. She works for VZW. And I work for Brighthouse, we live off the perks of the job :P

have you asked viperboy about the alltel gps problem? Maybe pm him.

I live in Ruskin - across the interstate for the National Weather Service office. So if you see the radar on the local news, the center of that spoke is my house.

I'm stuck on the Sun City Center side of the interstate and sometimes the GPS for the weather calls me Sun City which I dont like, I'm not a Old Fart yet! But I spend my life avoiding them in their cars.
