How do I delete files from the SD card

So, how do I clear files off the SD card. Here is what I have done so far that HAS NOT worked.

1. accessed card while connected to computer (mounted it)
2. highlighted and right clicked files. Selected delete, responded "yes" when asked if I was sure I wanted to delete file
3. File then disappeared
4. Disconnected phone from computer.

Now...I decided to double check it and re-accessed the card. Lo and behold...the deleted files were back. Tried again (twice) same thing. It is a game file that I accidentally stuck in the droid...cant get rid of it.

Any help would be appreciated

Thank You TABS...please tell me how you are accessing the SD card from the phone to do a loooong touch. I havent been able to do that yet.

This is what I use, with the Droid hooked to the PC, you can drag and drop a file or folder into File Shredder and it wipes it. File Shredder

I tried deleting powerpoint (and other) files from the "download" folder while my droid was hooked up to my PC, and they're still on my droid, so i tried downloading File Shredder on my PC but when I go to shred the files, they're not in the folder (but still on my droid).

Never mind, I just figured it out - when I went to actually open the file it said it was gone and then I was able to remove it from the list.
