If I remember correctly, I think the first stagefright setting people changed to false was the "player". But, it screwed with the Quadrant scores which, for some reason, are a big deal to people. Then I saw the "http" solution come up later stating it doesn't mess with quadrant scores.
I tried both and they both worked for me. But, if you want to change it the easiest way is with root explorer - but that is a pay app.

Root Explorer it is, I've been looking at buying it to modify ring delay values and Dalvik Cache heap size in build.prop for a day or so now (I'll probably make one change at a time at first). Any advice on not hosing my build.prop (I already have a non-modified build.prop and a Nandroid backup ready)? Looks like I'm off to the market...

Root Explorer makes a back up for you, so you should be set.

Just bought it and did it. Now the test in 20 minutes when I drive home. I'll report success or failure. Thanks again.

Well, Slacker seems good when I tweak my DSP settings in UD8 ROM, but Pandora is inconsistent. Every other song sounds awful (Anyone know why it's only some songs?). If I tweak my DSP settings while listening to Pandora on a song that lacks bass, then the next song blows out my speakers. I think its a Pandora thing, as Slacker as least sounds consistent (not great, but very good with DSP settings tweaked). What is everyone else doing with streaming audio these days?

I switched to using LastFM. The quality is much better, not noticing the sound problems that I experienced to Pandora. Works similar to Pandora and has allot of features that I now prefer.

The problem is NOT 100% fixed in any current Froyo ROM. The patch that Google sent out helps a little. The main problem comes into play when you stream Audio from Pandora, Slacker, etc... over 3G. These companies downgrade the bit rate and use the AAC+ Codex when you are streaming over 3G. Even with the Stagefright patch, it will still not sound as good over 3G as it did with a 2.1 ROM. Some songs do sound better than others when on 3G. It has to do with how they were originally encoded.
I like ( or should I say Liked ) Pandora. It sounded great with the 2.1 ROM. When I upgrade to Froyo is sounded horrable. I learned about disabling stagefright and it sounded better, but never as good as it did with the 2.1 ROMs. I tried several ROMs that implimented the patch, but non of them truly solved the streaming issue over 3G. They all sounded fine when streaming over Wifi. I even put a 2.1 ROM back on the phone just to make sure I was not going crazy. Even with the latest ROMS ( I use the SS 4.8 ), they DO NOT sound as good over 3G as the 2.1 ROMs did.
I am convinced that Google altered some other audio settings/code related to streaming with Froyo other than the switch to stagefright. I think it might have something to do with the rumored Google TV/Radio/Music. As near as I can tell Google is NOT going to do anything else about the audio problems many people are still experiancing. Our only hope is that the streaming site will migrate away from the AAC+ codex and use mp3 across the board.....
