Really? Me thinks you need to lay off the sauce. The Incredible is a huge jump in performance and technology. Not to mention the EVO 4G and the Scorpion based devices that are in the works.
Be nice I never said Incredible is an Eris with a new case and denser screen. The performance is better, true, but that is expected (Moore's law, whatever). The reason Droid was such a success was because it took what existed (Android OS) and together with the obligatory spec bump, it added a keyboard (a software upgrade can be accomplished without altering the device, so it really didn't add anything by itself in that department). The reason there is sort of a "meh" attitude towards first the N1 and now the newer HTC phones is that they really don't add anything new and exciting for a non-geek.

Asking me to be nice and calling me a geek! I resemble that!

Anyway. You can't really expect anything WOW'ing just yet. The Incredible is definitely a step in the right direction just not super. As for new and exciting for non-geek I beg to differ. You throw a feature phone user or an iPhone user in front of a Moto-Blur or Sense UI device with a nice display and they get all happy in the pants. I cannot begin to tell you how many times I have heard something similar to this, "This is awesome", "It REALLY does do that?", "Can I get this on AT&T?", "I wish my :insert phone here: did this". It's amazing how fast people warm up to these things when they have been using the same old same old for so long.

    LG G2X w/ rooted 2.3.3 leak.

It's OK for your Droid to be different. Just be supportive and reassuring and it will do just fine. It's when you or other people point at it or mock it for being different is when its' feelings get hurt. Just show it unconditional love regardless of its' differences and it will in turn reciprocate that love and loyalty.

Yes, but there comes a time when a company needs to hold off on innovation, and refine the product it already has. After you have done that, then you can focus again at innovating. Iphone OS has been the basically the same, with refinements here and there.

You also have to consider, that most of the innovation will be going on behind the scenes. If the old ipone kept getting all the new innovations they worked on, then we would look at any new release of the iphone with a "meh......been there done that", "My phone already does that" Attitude.

Just using the iphone as an example. Goes for Android, HTC, Samsung, Moto.......etc, to.

When I saw the Incredible come out my first thought was that my 3 week old Motorola Droid was obsolete. However, the screen size is the same,
Screen size is not the same, Droid has 854x480 (16:9) while the HTC does not.

I also agree and think the next best phone to buy will be the "Droid 2" by Motorola

What make you both think the Droid Incredible won't have the same amazing community? The more phones that do well for Android the better the Android Platform succeeds.

Well, I just got done going outside with my friends Nexus One, and my Droid. Brightness for both all the way up.

    My conclusion...........?

Their both very dim outside. Mind you its cloudy today with little sun. When comparing, the Droid having a better screen in sunlight is overrated. The Nexus One screen is dimmer but its so mi-nute that it shouldn't even matter.

Bottom line I saw it for myself, and I can't be bias, just because I love my droid. They both suck in the sunlight.
That was my suspicions.... while the lcd may have the edge, the vast improvement in normal lit rooms overpowers the rare times I need a phone in direct sunlight.

I don't think its a night and day different.. but rather very subtile... I'll compare tomorrow for myself too.

It would be one thing if the LCD was just fine in bright sunlight but its not.. its sucky... so there is not much to loose and more to gain by going oled.
Especially better power consumption due to oled only using the light it needs to get the job done whereas lcd is full brightness all the time behind the scene and simply blocks the frequencies it does not want you to see to give you the color you need.

It will be cool when they can adjust the intensity of oled like the outdoor led screens you see in vegas.

Google Nexus One versus Motorola Droid Display Shoot-Out

    Look at the last line:
    Power Consumption
    at Maximum Brightness
0.91 watts Both about 1 watt
    0.87 watts
    Power Consumption for the
    same Peak Luminance 229 cd/m2
0.91 watts LCD with LED backlight is more efficient
    0.54 watts
    Power Consumption for Black
0 watts OLED is zero because it is emissive
0.46 watts Droid Dynamic Contrast reduces power for Black

Many movies are very dark in color... the oled would use much less power.
Oled can use just as much power as lcd "with white scenes" but can also drop way back for darker scense while the lcd still maintains the high wattage usage.

I used to see arguments like this about plasma and lcd...... engineers would come online with all thier fancy software and "prove" thier point... but the human eye plays funny tricks that software cannot emulate...

the human eye adjusts and interprets and the brain likes seeing what it normally sees in real life.....

bottom line is you really have to compare the two in person to see which is best......

I have not compared in broad daylight.. but I will tell you that normal lighting.... amoled is awesome..... it really is....

I challenge you to take a picture and send the picture over to an oled phone "no changes in resolution etc... a simple transfer via bluetooth or some way it doesn't get altered" and compare the two.... seeing is believing!
