    my wifi connection is bad only on my droid

    My wifi gets me about 3mbps on other wireless devices, but varies wildly between 0.6mbps and 1.4mbps on my Droid, but never approaches 3. Is this normal?

    Yes, it's normal. At least in my experience. My laptops are much faster than my droid.

    The higher the security, the more processing required. WPA-2 or WPA will be slower on the Droid than WEP.
