Seeing as this is not a primary reason that i'm getting the phone, i will check it out in the store, and if it doesn't click i will buy it and wait for software updates. no biggie here.
    Resistance is futile.

That's why Moto shipped the devices. They don't want to take the cost hit because they knew many would just deal.

I thought this thread was going to be really long. That's why I don't work in the corporate world

Post Checking on any new information about this. 12/4/09

I've had my droid for about a week now and just started using the camera. I noticed the clicking sound immediately and thought it wouldn't work at all. But the camera seems to work fine. But I'm not sure if I should be worried about the mechanical clicking sound when the camera starts coming up.

Does anyone have any updates about this or can the new OTA update cure this problem??

Yes skeptical because it seems like a mechanical problem and not something the update (software) can correct. But perhaps the software not defining the camera spec when it opens is what the problem really is. In that case, maybe the software fix will do the trick. I guess I'll find out in a week or so.

man, you looked so depressed and skeptical! The updates will be coming in 2 weeks, maybe? Until then be happy and don't worry! Best of all, Motorola know about it and they'll comes with a fix and if it is a mechanical issue then we are in big ???????!!!!!! I'll be going into hiding.LOL' In the meantime

The clicking is not mechanical. Mine does it as well. I personally think the camera is pretty good in comparison to past phone cameras I had and its comparable to my 7mp Sony Cybershot. The issue that is causing the negative press is the software autofocus which is one of their top priorities in fixing.
