email shortcut on desktop

I want to create a shortcut to an email address on the desktop. Since I only have a limited text message plan but I can email texts for free I thought the solution would be to just email texts to other verizon users. It is a pain though if I have to go into contacts etc. to do this each time. I would rather just have a shortcut to an email address which would then open up in gmail.
is this possible, anyone want to write an app for this?!
