If you exit out of your browser before it fully loads, sometimes the GPS can get left on while it looks for "location." I had this quite a bit because I was always using the back button to exit the browser. Now I just hit home and forget it, or you could set your home page to about:blank.
I've actually had this same problem recently, since upgrading to maps 4.0. I'm not sure if that's the issue, but I did not notice it before. I've killed different tasks looking for the cause, and once GPS turned off when I killed the browser (but I always use the home button to exit) and once when I killed Shop Saavy (even though I had not used Shop Saavy since my last reboot). I don't know if these were the actual problems or if the GPS just finally turned off by coincidence, but that's what I've experienced.
I've had Weather Widget and Beautiful Widgets both hang on the GPS lately.
I use a task killer when this happens, which has been happening to me less recently. There was a period of about two days where it was doing it constantly.
I don't like to turn off the GPS in the system settings because there are other things that use GPS that don't **** up.
How do you make this happen ON PURPOSE? I actually want my GPS to stay on. Evidently its possible even if its called a "bug".
