Here is what I came across with a quick Google Search of Verizon and Bahamas. Seems like you are better off buying a calling card.

Call Verizon you will need to add International roaming to your account I have been to the Bahamas and have gotten coverage on my verizon phone but I was on a Cruise and the ship wasn't to far away.The rates though are terrible I spent a good 200 extra dollars for my cell phone on a 7 day cruise
