Hey fellow member, the idea of not supporting a thread, involves not posting in it. See, when you post in a thread, it bumps it. Just thought I'd let you know.
So will you be unrooting?

1) I don't expect it will take long for the devs (Sholes for me) to build new, amazing ROMs based on the 2.1 core.
2) Overclocking. I used my Droid for 3 days at 1GHz (completely stable), then for fun turned it back to 550MHz. I about cried and immediately switched it back to 1GHz. I believe 2.1 is much better optimized, so 2.1 overclocked should be astonishing.
3) Drocap.
4) Wifi tether.
Oh... and if there isn't a exploitation for 2.1? Not all software is easily exploited. That could of been the long wait. Thanks for your thoughts though, you seem to be enthralled with your phone being rooted.

I will wait it out. Learned my lesson with the Iphone. Had it jailbroke, did a needed apple update which in turn lost the jailbreaking. Then had to wait several weeks to get all my enhancements back. Can take a little while for someone to hack the update. So....I am waiting it out unless something amazing comes out of it.

If I'm not mistaken (and I very well may be since I'm not at all familiar with Linux - so somebody correct me if I'm wrong), it doesn't necessarily need an exploit. Devs can go in and change user permissions with a complete system dump, then build off of that. I believe that's how the Nook was rooted - they found the SD card that contained the kernel, connected it to a computer, changed the permissions, put it back, and boom, rooted.

I'm not too sure. But I'm sure they can fix it so it won't happen. But if a simple dump was needed, would it still be called a "root"?

You still need that initial exploit to be able to DO anything. Without it, you don't have the necessary read/write permissions.

I think I'll wait for the 2.1 OTA, then root and OC..... if another update comes out, I'll hold tight until that next update gets released root to backup to.
I like to get my toys running top notch and then update only when its a step up.... too much work to tear down and back up and tear down and back up.

Very tough decision but I did go back to stock. I'm kind of glad I did the whole rooting process was a little to stressful for a noob like me! Was a good experience though.

this thread puzzles me. i've been waiting to root, and think i might right now before 2.1 hits. that way i can take advantage of the root features until 2.1 roots are good to go, + 2.1 probably doesn't have (unless there's more info i've missed) animated wallpapers which is basically all i was waiting for. am i missing something here?
