OK, so what am I doing wrong?

My home WiFi gets speeds up to 16mps, but I only get like 1.5-2.0 on my Droid connected to my WiFi network.

So I have no clue what you are doing to get 9mps with your Droid on WiFi.

Kodiak- are you using a Verizon provided WiFi? With the Verizon (Actiontec router) WiFi I'm getting 4Mbps. I added a linksys WiFi g router as an access point for the other side of the house and was getting only 2.8Mbps down. Shuffled the channels, set WiFi g only and now I'm getting 5Mbps from the linksys.

How are you using speedtest.net on a droid? It requires flash.

Yep....Downloaded an app from market. Are you saying that's inaccurate? What site should I use?

Also, yes, I have a netgear wireless router not verizon. Too late to return it. Oh well, don't really do a lot of surfing at home, anyway, but would be nice to get max speed. Crazy thing is, I get upload speeds that are actually a little faster (d/l 1500kbs, u/l 2000kbs).

OK, changed test server and it's much faster. Different server still gives me @4.5 down and 2.1 up. Question is, which numbers are the best gauge? I'd guess the fastest is probably most accurate.
