Hardware destroyed, software still hacked
i dropped my phone (OG Droid) on a concrete sidewalk, completely breaking it. the power button is forced in, the keyboard wont slide closed. if i manage to turn it on, the entire screen is just jumbled colors and such. i was running custom firmware. my question is, what should i do at this point? im up for an upgrade on the 14th of february if that matters any.

If you created a backup then did you save it to your SD card?
Unless you can get another phone, you're out of luck til the 14th, luckily it's not too far away

I'd tell them what happened and see if they'll let you upgrade two weeks early. If they won't, then you'll have to borrow one from a friend or buy a used one online.

I bet they let you upgrade early. Wouldn't hurt to ask. Best of luck!

alright thanks for the suggestions, guys, i really appreciate it. ill call verizon when i get the chance later today, until then, or in case they say no, is there any way i could re-active/downgrade to this old samsung rogue (dumbphone) i have lying around, just for the sake of having a phone?

You can re-activate but if it is indeed a dumbphone you will lose your unlimited data plan.

ah, i figured, but thanks for the heads-up. if i go to verizon, and ask if i can upgrade the phone early (like previous suggestions said to try), lets say for whatever reason they ask to see the phone. will they be able to tell if ive been running custom firmware? the interface wont show anything on account of the busted screen, so no recovery, bootloader, actual android interface or anything like that (as far as im aware, ive tried everything), but is there anything i need to/can even do prior to taking it just to be safe? eh, i apologize if thats a dumb question but i just like to be certain

I don't see how they would know if the screen is broke. Granted my was working (with custom firmware) but all they did was turn it off. Also you are way past the warrantee period. I'm think with less than 2 week to go they will let you upgrade.

also, this is probably something i shouldve attached to the OP, and i apologize for not doing so, but heres a piture of what the phone does whenever i turn it on. be it what i think is the recovery or bootloader (cant really tell for obvious reasons), or anything, it always looks like this upon turning it on, so i dont think anyone would be able to tell if i was running custom firmware.

I wouldn't worry about it. They won't check for it and they can't anyway with your phones condition. Besides you're trying to upgrade and not get a replacement.
