Help With Weird Numbers

I've got these (attached) numbers in my messaging screen. It's the ones in brackets. So far I figured out that the right side means the amount of messages received, but why is the left side all on zero? I've replied to most of the messages, thus from what I understand the zero should become the replied message number. I've google to no avail but there must be someone on here that knows what this means? Right?

I'm not a hundred percent but your theory seems correct to me. The zero shows there are no new messages and the number in the eight is the total amount of messages To/From that particular person.

That was also going through my head, I've got 'delivery reports' ON so maybe this is another delivery confirmation?

you could try sending a text in airplane mode, or try to enable airplane mode as soon as you try to send it to force a failed delivery and see

Great idea, but it hangs in airplane mode 'sending' until you disable airplane mode, then it gets delivered. It must be something to do with delivery reports, It's just strange that there is no info on this...
