    Rooting droid 2.2.3???

    I just got a droid from my friend for free and im using it just to mess around with and stuff like that but its not activated, im just using wifi. And i want to root(i am familiar what it is because i have on my droid X and love it). I heard of that you can use superoneclick v1.7 so i tried to download the link from multiple websites using my phone and when i click download and pull the status bar down it says download unsuccessful. Why is this, am i supposed to download it on my computer and then put the zip onto my phone? Im so confused!
    How do i root it in the easiest way possible?
