The Droid And Cell Phones In Japan

Im curious, Ive heard phones in Japan are light years ahead of what we have over here. Anyone know how so, what they can do? Are they like mini-laptops? Can they easily mop the floor with the Droid? Or are we actually doing pretty good over here?

Yeah, they are on like 6G.. Pretty sure most have built-in microwave guns.

The latest ones have a neural interface.

They did start using phones for their train passes, so it's one thing you don't see in America.

You simply waive your phone over the train entry door and it lets you through.

Can't really say for certain. The one thing I do know is that people over there all pretty much access email over their phones. By contrast, widespread data usage in this country is just starting to take off (which is one reason why Google is pushing Android).

Its not that they as far ahead (well maybe a little) its that they are not as restricted there. And they actually buy phones over there like they do a tv or microwave. They full price where we are paying subsidized prices. Because you pay for it though a cell phone company they can regulate how the phone may be use, ie the verizon version of the nexus.
An international iphone is not as powerful, but is more open overseas then here. The one that a co worker brought to america had a battery cover where you could remove the battery, and was fully customizable (sorry no pictures).

Let's not go crazy with stereotypes please... do you honestly believe in a globalized world where information spreads across the entire globe within seconds that there's honestly some kind of crazy technology that you have not heard about in engadget already? Or are you really that naive?

P.S. iphones are pretty popular in Japan, that's the extent of their *crazy* technology.
